Saint Jean de Luz is a seaside resort famous for its long beach of fine sand protected from the ocean by three dikes. Situated very close to Spain, the city first found prosperity with fishing and since then has profited from tourism.
In the centre, find La Pergola Casino which opened in 1928. Walk in the old part of the city where the Rue Gambetta (the main street called Grande Rue before (Long Street)), is the vein of a very animated area. The church St Jean Baptist is located in the middle of the Rue Gambetta and the port is at the end of the old city. Between the Place Louis the XIVth and the Place des Corsaires is the town hall built in the beginning of the 17th century, next to the Louis the XIVth's house with its turrets and corbelled construction.
